STORIES FROM THE BIG HOUSE : Weatherford Boys Basketball

ust one glance at the Weatherford roster and you will see they have some big boys. With fourteen athletes at least 6 foot tall, and four between 6’5” and 6’6”, people from Weatherford are proud to say their boys are “HOME GROWN”. The only recruiting that has gone on in Weatherford was done in the mid 90’s when David George Hauser and Charlie Schaef coached SWOSU’s men's basketball teams. The fathers of all five starters came to Weatherford for college and never wanted to leave. Instead, they got married, planted roots, and raised basketball players. These boys have played together since they were 4 years old and it shows. They know each other’s strengths and tendencies. They can anticipate what each other will do, before they even have to think about it.

Having made it to the semifinals in 2022 and the championship game in 2023, this Weatherford team has a record of 79-11 over the last 3 years and has accomplished a lot. The one thing they haven’t done yet, is win a state championship… and although they will be stacked with 4 returning starters next year, they are hoping to check winning that state championship box off this year! After a 54-34 quarterfinal game win over Stilwell, these young men and their Weatherford Eagles team are only 2 games away from making that happen. Weatherford advances to play in the 4:30pm semifinal game in the Big House against the winner of the Anadarko vs. McClain quarterfinal game.
